Autumn in Dongliang township – in Yangquan city, North China's Shanxi province – always brings a sense of anticipation, excitement and a vibrant harvest season.
The township's 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) processing potato planting base goes into overdrive, as tractors with their harvesting machines churn through the fields of golden potatoes.
Workers diligently sort and package the fresh produce, creating an idyllic picture of rural prosperity.
As one of Yangquan's primary grain-producing areas, Dongliang has capitalized on its agricultural opportunities by developing the extensive potato base.
With its flat terrain, the area utilizes modern machinery for cultivation and maintenance, boosting productivity. During planting and harvest seasons, the demand for temporary labor attracts many local farmhands.

The success of Dongliang's potatoes can be attributed to its favorable climate, characterized by ample sunlight and significant temperature variations.
These conditions are said to make it an ideal region for processing potatoes, which are in high demand for producing potato flour, chips and fries.
Zheng Junwen, director of the Dongliang Agricultural Comprehensive Development Co, said it's established partnerships with several processing firms and e-commerce platforms, ensuring a steady market for their products.
What's more, through a collaborative model – involving enterprises, production centers and local communities – Dongliang township has significantly improved the incomes and contentment of its farmers.
By integrating farmers into the entire production chain, it's widely said that the township is not only enhancing agricultural efficiency but also fostering community prosperity.
