Yangquan puts road meteorological info perception network into use
Yangquan meteorological bureau recently launched a road traffic meteorological information perception network.
The network consists of devices such as road condition meters, visibility meters, automatic weather stations, and video collectors and can monitor real-time meteorological data such as road flooding, road surface temperature, visibility, ice thickness, snow thickness, and wet skid coefficient.
"Based on the precise monitoring data provided by the network, the meteorological station combines road information with weather forecasts and then synchronizes the data to the companies in need," said Yuan Jie, director of the Yangquan Meteorological Station.
With the support of refined traffic meteorological services, meteorological data is incorporated into the vehicle-road coordinated intelligent edge computing unit and automatically pushed to the traffic dispatch command center and operating autonomous vehicles. With the data collected by the network, autonomous vehicles can adjust driving speed, replan driving routes, and ensure safe driving under different weather conditions.
In recent years, Yangquan has promoted the construction of a smart city for vehicles, with autonomous buses, security vehicles, vending vehicles, cleaning vehicles, and delivery vehicles put into use.
The city's meteorological bureau will continue to strengthen cooperation with departments of big data, transportation, and urban management as well as high-tech enterprises to promote the integration of smart meteorology into various fields of economic and social development.
