Yangquan city in North China's Shanxi province has focused on strengthening the management and maintenance of green spaces and improving the quality of its parks, so as to build a new urban greening pattern.
In recent years, efforts have been made to build mini parks, improve road greening, construct urban greenways, upgrade old parks, and refine park management.

"We plan to construct a new urban greenway, renovate two comprehensive parks, upgrade two old parks, and build and renovate eleven mini parks this year," said Zhu Jiming, director of the Yangquan urban gardening administration.
Since the beginning of the year, the administration has promoted the construction of urban greenways along both sides of the Taohe River through transplanting seedlings, building barrier-free ramps, and adding outdoor lighting systems.

Meishan Park and Saiyu Park will be renovated: The plan is to develop the former into a comprehensive park themed around the history of coal mining in Yangquan, with ring roads and streetlights to be added and the square to be renovated; the latter will be upgraded into a sports and leisure belt park.
Nanshan Park and Yangquan City Center Park, which have been in operation for many years, will undergo the renovation and upgrading of old facilities.
The administration has also planted new varieties of flowers, and placed different potted plants in major parks and streets throughout the city according to the season. For example, 16,000 plants, including bougainvillea, impatiens, and chrysanthemums, have been planted in Nanshan Park.
