The density of railways and highway in Yangquan ranks top in the province.

The operation of Shijiazhuang–Taiyuan Railway, Shuozhou-Huanghua Port Railway, Yangquan-She County Railway and Yangquan-Yu County Railway, and the Shijiazhuang-Taiyuan High-speed Passenger Dedicated Line has greatly shortened the distance between Yangquan and surrounding central cities. It takes only 30 minutes to Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang, and only two hours to travel to Beijing. Yangquan has now become an important railway hub connecting Beijing, Tianjin, Tangshan, Henan, Hebei and Shanxi.

Thanks to the 307 National Highway, 207 National Highway, Taiyuan-Jiuguan Expressway, Yangquan-Wutaishan Expressway, Beijing-Kunming Expressway and Xinzhong Expressway, it takes only one hour to Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang, and it is only four hours' drive to Beijing. Based on this framework, a crisscross traffic network is formed with the urban area as the center, radiating counties and towns under jurisdiction and neighboring provinces and cities.

Located 100 kilometers away from Taiyuan and Shijiazhuang Airport, Yangquan has convenient air traffic. There are several civil aviation ticket offices in the city, making tickets buying and goods delivery convenient.

In 2019, the mileage of roads in Yangquan city stretched 5,696 kilometers and the annual railway freight and passenger transportation volumes were 39.87 million metric tons and 1.93 million, respectively.
