The city of Yangquan in North China’s Shanxi province played host to 2.47 million tourists during the Oct 1-7 holiday period, representing year-on-year growth of 17.62 percent, according to local media reports.

Total tourism revenue hit 1.1 billion yuan ($155 million), surging 19.2 percent over the same period last year.

Major tourist attractions in the city -- including Taolin Ditch, Cang Mountain and Niangzi Pass -- received some 314,800 tourists during the seven-day holiday, representing year-on-year growth of 20.5 percent.

Total tourism revenue hit 45.07 million yuan, for year-on-year growth of 21.4 percent.

In order to enhance the tourist experience, the city's scenic spots have launched a series of tourism activities and 12 high-quality tourism routes -- and opened five free shuttle bus lines that arrive at different scenic spots in the city.

To maintain safe and orderly conditions for tourists, the city introduced extra security patrols and inspections at key tourist attractions.

Local officials said that special arrangements were made to ensure that adequate numbers of staff were on duty to handle complaints over the holiday period.
