Yangquan firm in list of China’s top 500 enterprises

Yangquan Coal Industry (Group) Co is among the top 500 enterprises in China, according to a list released by the China Enterprise Confederation and the China Enterprise Directors Association on Sept 1.

The company ranked 114 on the list, with an operating income last year of 173.90 billion yuan ($24.44 billion).

Based in Yangquan in northern Shanxi province, Yangquan Coal was established in 1950. It is one of the first batch of large-scale State-owned coal enterprises and the largest anthracite production base in China.

The company's total assets have hit 220 billion yuan and it currently has 62 subsidiaries and 170,000 employees.

The company currently has a portfolio of 41 coal mines, with recoverable deposits of 20 billion tons and annual coal production capacity of 86.3 million tons.

It also operates 25 chemical companies with an annual production capacity of 16 million tons. Its industrial scale is the largest in Shanxi province and among the top three in the country in the coal, chemicals sector.

In the aluminum power industry it has formed two complete operations – a coal-electric-aluminum and bauxite-alumina-electrolytic chain and an aluminum-aluminum industrial processing chain.
