Rated as a national AAAA grade scenic spot, a national water conservancy scenic spot, a national popular science education base, and a scenic spot, a water conservancy scenic spot, and a forest park of Shanxi -Cuifeng Mountain Natural Scenic Area is located in Houyu village, Pingtan town, Yangquan city. It is one of the mountains in Qiling mountain range of Taihang mountain. Its stratum is Paleozoic and Triassic and consists of purplish red sandshale and shale, which are typical features of geological evolution and sea-land transition. The scenic area covers an area of 13 square kilometers, with an altitude of 1,430 meters and an annual average temperature of 11 ℃. Due to the special geological landform and climatic environment, Cuifeng Mountain is home to a large number of relatively intact natural primary secondary plants and biocenoses, with a forest coverage rate of over 75 percent and a green coverage rate of also over 75 percent. In addition, with more than 1,200 species of plants that are exuberant and evenly distributed, the mountain also became a habitat for more than 180 species of wild animals. There are abundant high-quality water resources, and fresh air with high content of negative oxygen ions (2,350 per ㎝3); Besides, you can enjoy beautiful scenery in four season: peach blossom in spring, grass in summer, maples in autumn and snow in winter.

Other scenic spots include the largest specimen room in Shanxi province, with specimens of 3,000 species of marine and terrestrial animals and plants; viewing platforms for sunrise, peach blossom, grass, maples and snow; Shout Cliff to regulate the mood, Cuifeng Pavilion on which you can view the Hundred-Regiment Campaign Monument and the Yangquan city; Maple Leaf Pavilion and Buddha Pavilion on which you can overlook the panorama of the scenic area.
