On Oct 25, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) announced the sixth batch of National Industrial Heritage sites. Majiaping Substation, operated by State Grid Yangquan Power Supply Co, was officially recognized.
Constructed in 1955, Majiaping Substation was the first 110-kilovolt public substation in the People's Republic of China. Its establishment marked a historic step in regional power networking, connecting the Taiyuan Power Plant and Yangquan Power Plant and forming the initial structure of central Shanxi's electric grid. The substation stands as a testament to China's progress in electrical engineering, as the country evolved from imported equipment to domestically produced innovations that now lead global standards. Today, the station maintains a complete collection of equipment spanning each developmental stage.
In July, an expert group led by MIIT conducted an on-site evaluation of Majiaping Substation's facilities, including its historic control building, cultural corridor, and zero-carbon demonstration area. This comprehensive review contributed to its designation as a National Industrial Heritage site.
Yangquan, home to two recognized sites – Majiaping Substation and Yangquan's Third Mine – is dedicated to safeguarding these legacies. City officials will adhere to MIIT's guidelines to enhance protective measures, strengthen systematic conservation, and ensure that Yangquan's industrial heritage is honored and preserved for future generations.
