The prefecture-level city of Yangquan, North China's Shanxi province, hosted the third Sodium-ion Battery Industry Chain Standards and Development Forum on June 13.
Experts, academics and entrepreneurs from across China gathered to provide insights and support for the growth of the sodium-ion battery industry.
Yangquan has strategically embraced opportunities in new energy industries, focusing on sodium-ion batteries.
The establishment of New Energy Battery Town, with the Huayang Group's support, has attracted top companies in the field like BTR New Material Group and Duofuduo New Materials Co.
This in turn has led to the operational launch of the world's first batch of 1GWh sodium-ion battery cell production lines, marking a significant step towards commercializing sodium-ion battery applications.
In 2023, Yangquan was recognized as one of the top 10 innovative cities in sodium-ion battery technology.

The forum aimed to deepen cooperation in technical innovation, standards setting, supply chain enhancement and application expansion within Yangquan's new energy battery industry.
It also highlighted the city's commitment to providing optimal conditions and services to facilitate collaborations and to contribute to Yangquan's green and low-carbon energy transformation.
During the forum, key announcements were made on lithium-ion battery carbon footprint accounting, sodium-ion battery technology roadmaps, evaluation results for battery performances and safety – as well as companies achieving life cycle evaluations.
