Tong Mingquan, a deputy to the National People's Congress (NPC) and entrepreneur from Yangquan, North China's Shanxi province, made suggestions regarding the sodium-ion battery industry at the ongoing second session of the 14th NPC in the national capital of Beijing.

As a beneficial supplement to lithium-ion batteries, the sodium-ion battery is known for its high safety, high specific power, high conversion rate, and long cycle life, with stable performance under both high and low-temperature conditions.

Several domestic new energy enterprises have already achieved mass production of sodium-ion batteries. However, due to the early stage of industrialization, the production and application development costs for sodium-ion batteries are high. Additionally, according to relevant regulations, a 4-percent consumption tax is still required for the production and processing of these batteries, which has increased the cost of their application and promotion.

As deputy general manager of (Shanxi) Fiber New Materials Co of Huayang New Material Technology Group based in Yangquan, Tong suggested that central government departments supplement and improve related policies to better reflect the regulation, guidance, and support of fiscal policies for green and environmentally-friendly industries, including listing sodium-ion batteries as a tax-exempt item, so as to promote the development of the emerging sodium-ion battery industry.

Huayang New Material Technology Group has collaborated with HiNa Battery Technology Co to construct a complete industrial chain for sodium-ion batteries, promoting the application of sodium-ion battery products.
