The city of Yangquan in North China's Shanxi province has achieved impressive results in promoting biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in recent years.
Yangquan has boosted land greening, ecological restoration, and the reform of State-owned forest farms, strengthened forest cultivation, optimized forest structure, and improved the quality of forests, offering a good environment for wildlife growth, propagation, overwintering, foraging, migration, and rest.
Various local publicity activities have also inspired more residents to participate in biodiversity conservation.
The Yangquan bureau of planning and natural resources has spread information via social media platforms such as WeChat and Douyin, hanging banners, publicity exhibition boards, and leaflets in wildlife migration channels, habitats and concentration areas, and carried out anti-hunting campaigns, which has strengthened the public protection of wildlife.
As a result, the city has so far seen spermatophyte in 725 species, 390 genera and 96 families, including two species under national second-level key protection and three under provincial key protection, and 48 species of wild animals, including four under national first-class protection and 16 under provincial key protection.
Next, Yangquan will build a complete monitoring system for biodiversity protection, further improve biodiversity protection, and create a virtuous circle for the natural ecosystem.
