Beijing 2022 mascots enjoy wide popularity in Yangquan

The mascots for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games have recently gained popularity in Yangquan, North China's Shanxi province, as the world sports meet continues.

In addition to purchasing through official channels, quite a few people in Yangquan have created their own paper-cuts, colored dough sculptures, sand paintings, and crayon paintings of the mascots Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon to cheer on Olympic athletes.

According to the Yangquan market regulation bureau (intellectual property office), residents making their own recreations of the mascots for individual use will not constitute infringement.

However, as the Olympic mascots are intellectual property, merchants who produce and sell pirated copies and related unauthorized products of Bing Dwen Dwen and Shuey Rhon Rhon will be punished for infringement, the bureau reminded.
