Shanxi Provincial Government on Aug 7 approved the establishment of Yuxian Economic and Technological Development Zone in Yuxian county, administered by Yangquan city in North China's Shanxi province. 

The zone -- whose confirmation of status followed its application to be an administrative business unit since 2018 -- covers an area of around 20 square kilometers. 

It is currently overseeing the construction of an innovation, entrepreneurship and intelligent manufacturing park in the local Xiushui town, a new materials industrial park in Nanlou town and an industrial park in Xiyan town -- with the three parks covering a total area of 9.42 sq km. 

There are already 16 companies in Yuxian Economic and Technological Development Zone. In 2019, the value of their total industrial output was 3.5 billion yuan ($504.88 million) and tax revenue amounted to 284 million yuan. 

Officials said the zone will strive to develop as a provincial industrial demonstration base for the manufacturing of new refractory materials. 

It will also aim to develop as a regional innovation, entrepreneurship and intelligent manufacturing hub in Shanxi -- by focusing on the new refractory materials, industrial solid waste utilization and intelligent machinery manufacturing sectors. 

In addition, it will develop the intelligent logistics and electronic information industries. 

Yuxian county will build the zone as demonstration model for its reform and opening-up. It will be a new industrial cluster in the county, with Yuxian offering the zone support in the construction of infrastructure, attracting investment, and financing.
