China Mobile's 5G Intelligent Mining Alliance is made up of some 70 members including Tsinghua University, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co and Huawei Technologies Co.

It will unite all parties to build an intelligent mining cooperation platform, accelerate key core technological breakthroughs, guide joint construction and resource sharing and promote the integration of 5G and the mining industry.

The first 5G-based colliery in China was built by China Mobile, Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co and Huawei at the Xinyuan Colliery of Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co in Yangquan city.

With the 5G network installed 534 meters deep underground, the colliery launched three 5G-based mining applications.

These have achieved unmanned, automated and visual operations of the colliery, reduced the labor intensity and risks to staff members, while improving mining efficiency.
