First underground mine livestreaming held in Yangquan

Updated: 2020-06-16

The world's first live broadcast from underground coal mines using a 5G network was staged at the 534-meter underground coal mine operated by Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co in Yangquan city in North China's Shanxi province on June 12.

The livestreaming, which lasted over an hour on several domestic and overseas social media platforms, selected two sites of Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co's Xinyuan Coal Mine.

The livestreaming, among other things, demonstrated modern coal mine production sites.

Early in May, Yangquan Coal Industry Group Co installed China's first 5G coal mine special network in Xinyuan Coal Mine together with China Mobile and Huawei Technologies Co, making a contribution to coal mine upgrading and 5G-based intelligent coal mining.

A spokesman from Huawei said the live broadcast fully demonstrated China's ability to apply advanced 5G technology to production.

He added that it would help lead the way to improvements in the production safety and capacity of the mining sector.
