The 2019 Shanxi Student Shooting Championship was held in Yangquan city, Shanxi province, on Oct 20, according to Yangquan Daily.

The competition was hosted by the Shanxi Department of Education and the Shanxi Sport Bureau and organized by the Shanxi Provincial Shooting and Archery Management Center and the Yangquan education bureau. 

The competition attracted 244 students from 38 primary and secondary schools in six cities: Taiyuan, Linfen, Yuncheng, Jinzhong, Yangquan and Lyuliang. 

The competition consists of the 10 meter pistol and 10 m rifle events for individuals and teams. 

According to the director of the youth sports department of the Shanxi Sport Bureau, the championship aims to promote the physical and mental health of young people. 

He said the laser gun used in the competition, which is safe and easy to use, would help raise the profile of the sport of shooting in schools. 

Wang Zhiwei, head coach of the shooting team at the Shanxi Provincial Shooting and Archery Management Center, attended the opening ceremony of the championship. 

He said that the championship -- held at Yangquan No 3 Middle School -- underscored that the sport promotion had expanded to primary and middle school. 

He said it would encourage more to participate in the shooting sports and more talent would be discovered as a result.
