Thanks to its rich intangible cultural heritage resources and unique folk activities, Taiyuan in North China's Shanxi province emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations during this year's Spring Festival holiday from Jan 28 to Feb 4.
Taiyuan's cultural relic sites and museums received 696,700 visits, generating ticket revenue of over 9 million yuan ($1.25 million). The ticket sales for intangible cultural heritage-related projects surged sevenfold compared to the previous year.
At Taiyuan Ancient County, visitors were treated to a dazzling array of folk performances, including dragon and lion dances, fireworks displays, and musical instrument recitals, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a bustling ancient marketplace.
The Jinci Museum offered cultural exhibitions and interactive activities related to intangible cultural heritage, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in Shanxi's history and culture.
Taiyuan hosted several grand lantern shows, such as the Taiyuan Ancient County Lantern Festival and the Jinci Park Lantern Festival, drawing large crowds.
The city's cultural relic sites and museums launched 83 offline activities and 52 exhibitions, along with 33 online activities and 103 exhibitions, presenting a unique cultural feast themed around the Year of the Snake.
