According to a recent report by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has seen a remarkable rise in its manufacturing capabilities.

In China's top 100 cities for advanced manufacturing, the city climbed from 58th in 2023 to 51st in 2024. This shift highlights the city's significant strides in upgrading its traditional manufacturing sector and embracing modern, high-tech industries.

In this report, CAICT evaluates cities based on their industrial scale, technological innovation, and economic benefits. Thanks to their high-tech enterprises and strong industrial bases, Shenzhen and Suzhou emerged as the top two cities in the manufacturing sector.

For Taiyuan, a city with a deep-rooted manufacturing legacy, transforming and upgrading traditional industries to develop advanced manufacturing has become an essential path to high-quality development. The city has made substantial progress toward this goal, focusing on becoming a national hub for advanced manufacturing.

At the core of Taiyuan's strategy is a "1233" industrial chain system, a comprehensive network that drives innovation and industrial synergy. The city has selected 95 key enterprises within this chain, tracking and managing 73 major projects and 64 investment attraction initiatives.

Taiyuan has developed 79 projects focused on critical technological innovations. With 177 enterprises now part of the provincial-level key industrial chains, the city accounts for more than 20 percent of the province's total industrial revenue.
