Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, recently announced the formulation of the city's metro line fare system and discount policies, including limited-time free same-station entry and exit measures.

Taiyuan's metro line will implement a distance-based fare system. The starting fare is 2 yuan ($0.27) for up to 5 kilometers and increases for distances beyond 5 km.

For example, the fare is 2 yuan for a distance up to 5 km, 3 yuan for a distance between 5 and 10 km, 4 yuan for a distance between 10 and 15 km, and 5 yuan for a distance between 15 and 21 km.

Passengers using metro cards (including physical and electronic cards) receive a 10-percent discount. Those entitled to ride for free with valid identification include seniors aged 65 and above, active military personnel, veterans, persons with disabilities, and members of the national comprehensive fire rescue team. Also included are family members of martyrs or soldiers who died in the line of duty.

Each adult can bring one child under 130 centimeters in height or under 6 years old (with valid identification) for free, with a 50-percent discount for any additional children.

Students in Taiyuan (including primary, middle, and high school, vocational schools, and technician colleges) can apply for a student card with a 50 percent discount.

Passengers can also enter and exit the same station for free within a limited time. For example, they can cancel their trip within 10 minutes of entering the station and process the refund at the customer service center of the entry station.
