Construction on Metro Line 1 in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has entered the final stretch, as revealed at a news conference held on June 19.
All 24 main stations along the line have been completed. In September, empty carriage trial runs and route testing will commence, with the line expected to open in December.
Phase 1 of Taiyuan Metro Line 1 spans 28.74 kilometers, serving as a main route in the city's rail transit network. It connects key transportation hubs such as Taiyuan West Railway Station, Taiyuan Railway Station, Taiyuan South Railway Station, and Wusu Airport T2 Terminal.
Taiyuan Metro Line 1 passes through multiple business districts, including Xiayuan, Liuxiang, and Chaoyang Street, forming a transit network with Metro Line 2.
After Metro Line 1 begins operation, daily passenger flows are expected to reach 17,000 at Xiayuan Station, 81,000 at Dananmen Station and Liuxiang South Gate Station, and 11,000 at Chaoyang Street Station.
Next, Taiyuan will accelerate the approval process for the construction plan of Phase 2 of the rail transit project, which includes Phase 1 of Metro Line 3 and Phase 2 of Metro Line 1, totaling 33.35 kilometers.
After these projects are completed, Taiyuan's metro lines are expected to transport about 1.14 million passengers daily, better serving the needs of the public.
