Taiyuan City Reclaimed Water Development Co is a water recycling base covering an area of 12,500 square meters with a total investment of about 502 million yuan ($69.05 million) in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province.
Under the base's ground, there are five water reservoirs currently holding water of four different qualities. According to different customer requirements, the base treats regenerated water to various standards before delivering it to customers.
The base mainly utilizes an "ultrafiltration + reverse osmosis" dual-membrane process, ensuring that the chloride ion concentration in the regenerated water is below 10.5 mg/L and total dissolved solids are below 65 mg/L, meeting the demand for high-quality industrial water of some enterprises.
The base is expected to replace approximately 21 million metric tons of water annually. It features hierarchical treatment and quality-based water supply and uses regenerated water energy.
According to an enterprise at the base, regenerated water is of higher quality with fewer impurities. The amount of disinfectants and other chemicals used has been greatly reduced, reducing production costs by 50 percent. By using regenerated water, the overall water recovery rate has increased by about 68 percent, offering the company strong environmental and economic benefits.
