Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has recently earned a spot on the national list of key cities for recycling and utilization of waste materials.

Concerning waste material recycling, the city has been designated among the initial cities for pilot projects focusing on resource utilization and harmless treatment of kitchen waste. It has also been included among the first 46 cities participating in pilot projects on garbage classification and the establishment of a "zero-waste city" during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

The city has successfully implemented a recycling network system, boasting a total of 249 recycling enterprises and sites that span the entire urban area. The count of enterprises involved in the processing and utilization of recycled resources and remanufacturing is on the rise.

Significant progress is being made in the construction of the sanitation base for the Taiyuan-Xinzhou Integrated Economic Zone and the Shanxi Green Recycling and Remanufacturing Industrial Base in the city.
