The World Table Tennis League (WTT) Contender Taiyuan 2023 began on Nov 9 in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province.
As a globally renowned and high-level international table tennis event, the WTT Contender Taiyuan is jointly hosted by the WTT, the Chinese Table Tennis Association, the Sport Bureau of Shanxi, and the Taiyuan municipal government.
The main competitions are taking place from Nov 9 to 12, featuring men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles events.
Nearly 100 athletes from 14 countries and regions will compete. The results will have an impact on their attempt to qualify for the WTT's season-ending finals and the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
In recent years, Taiyuan has accelerated its development as a sport city, with a series of high-quality events such as the Tour of Taiyuan international road cycling race, the Taiyuan Marathon, and the Fenhe River Dragon Boat Open.
Table tennis enjoys a mass base and a vibrant atmosphere in Taiyuan, becoming an important means by which residents can relax and keep fit. The WTT Contender will be held in the city for the next five years.
