Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, sought new business opportunities at the 2023 (China) Eurasia Commodity and Trade Expo held in Urumqi, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Aug 17-21.
Organized by the Secretariat of the China-Eurasia Expo and the Foreign Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce, the expo saw the participation of around 1,300 Chinese and international exhibitors, including more than 120 Fortune Global 500 enterprises, China's top 500 enterprises, and industry leaders.
Representatives from 40 countries and regions, including Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, as well as seven international organizations, were present.
To strengthen foreign exchange and cooperation and promote Taiyuan's unique agricultural products, Taiyuan formed an economic and trade delegation consisting of nine local companies to attend the expo, and held a series of promotions during the five-day event.
According to Guo Haiyan, president of the Taiyuan branch of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the city aimed to take advantage of the expo to further showcase Taiyuan's brands to consumers in Xinjiang and countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and seek opportunities to cooperate.
During the event, the Taiyuan (Urumqi) Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Conference was also held, resulting in the signing of agreements for six projects costing over 10 million yuan ($1.38 million) in total.
