A workshop in Loufan county of Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, was recently recognized as a representative intangible cultural heritage workshop by the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Among the 66 entries in the list, which was jointly compiled by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and the National Rural Revitalization Administration, the workshop, known as the Xuemei Embroidery Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop, was the only one in Shanxi.

Loufan embroidery is a type of Shanxi embroidery and an important part of the national intangible cultural heritage. It is widespread in the county and used to make daily necessities and wedding items.

The workshop has trained some 1,500 locals over the past five years, integrated intangible cultural heritage into modern life, and helped with rural vitalization.
