The Shanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeological Research released the latest discoveries in Jinyang Ancient City in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Nov 23.
The ruins of Jinyang Ancient City are located near Jinyuan town in Jinyuan district, southwest of Taiyuan, and occupy an area of about 20 square kilometers.
After 10 years of archaeological research and site protection, archeologists confirmed that the foundation of the No 2 building was the largest and most complete temple foundation site in the Buddhist temple site of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period (907-960) to be excavated in Jinyang Ancient City.
The foundation of the No 2 building is located on the south side of Qiaoyou Chemical Factory, 350 meters from the northern city wall of Taiyuan Ancient County in the south and 960 meters to 1100 meters from the west city wall in the west.
A large number of exquisite household porcelain works and intricate stone-carved architectural components have been unearthed at the foundation.
The excavation of the building site is of great significance to the study of the layout of temples during that period, as well as the urban layout of Jinyang Ancient City.
