A symposium on cooperation between Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, and Tongji University based in East China's Shanghai, was held in the northern city on Aug 3.
Taiyuan has established a partnership with Tongji University in talent introduction, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, intellectual property, education, and cadre temporary training.
The two sides have carried out 38 joint projects and trained 1,681 officials and entrepreneurs. A total of 2.18 million yuan ($322,516.87) in subsidies have been granted by the city's authorities to graduates of the university.
Wu Xiaohua, director of the Organization Department of the CPC Taiyuan Municipal Committee, said at the symposium that Taiyuan will rely on the strengths of Tongji University, strengthen applied technological research, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, introduce alumni economic projects, and accelerate the high-quality development of the city's industries.
Taiyuan will help Tongji University give full play to its strengths in urban and rural planning, civil engineering and transportation, and participate in the city's urban planning and construction, the protection of cultural relics and historical sites, and the development of rail transit.
Students of the university are encouraged to work and start businesses in Taiyuan.
