Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, plans to continue to extend and expand its green and low-carbon recycling development and implement four major energy conservation and carbon reduction projects during the 2021-25 period.

The four major projects involve energy saving technology transformation, energy technology innovation, the utilization of waste heat and pressure, as well as resource recycling, carbon reductions and efficiency improvements.

In terms of improving its sustainable development in new energy, Taiyuan is projected to deploy wind power, geothermal energy and biomass energy utilization projects and accelerate the construction of new energy and energy storage facilities.

The city is expected to promote the production of hydrogen from coke oven gas and renewable energy based on the local Shanxi Hydrogen Energy Engineering Technology Research Center, and to advance the construction of a hydrogen energy industrial park.

The development of low-wind speed resources in the counties of Yangqu and Loufan, in the county-level city of Gujiao and in the suburbs of West and East Mountains will be promoted. Plans are also for wind turbines to be installed that utilize the abundant wind energy resources in the mountainous areas.

Furthermore, Taiyuan is expected to encourage local districts, counties and a county-level city to develop solar power generation projects.

This will be done by using idle barren hills and slopes, large-scale public buildings to install rooftop solar power-generating equipment and systems – as well as big transport hub buildings, sports stadiums and parking lots.
