The cultural tourism market in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, continued to prosper during the Spring Festival holiday from Jan 31 to Feb 6, according to the local bureau of culture and tourism on Feb 7.

Major tourist attractions, parks and commercial blocks in the city received 2.52 million visits and generated 35.38 million yuan ($5.56 million) in ticket revenue during the holiday.

Among the visitors, 46.63 percent were from outside the province and 53.37 percent were from within the province. Most tourists from other provinces came to Shanxi to visit family.

Local tourist attractions with winter sports programs saw an increase in visits during the period as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics opened on Feb 4.

During the holiday, Taiyuan also organized 280 cultural activities both online and offline.

The tourism market of Taiyuan during the holiday recovered to pre-pandemic levels, according to the Taiyuan bureau of culture and tourism. This is due to the strict implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures, the construction of more tourism infrastructure and the supply of more high-quality cultural tourism products.
