The gross domestic product (GDP) of Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, reached 360.06 billion yuan ($56.34 billion) in the first three quarters of 2021, up 10.9 percent year-on-year, according to a press conference held by local authorities on Oct 25. 

The added value of the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors of the economy respectively increased 9.2 percent, 11.9 percent and 10.4 percent year-on-year to 2.46 billion yuan, 140.19 billion yuan, and 217.41 billion yuan during the period. 

The proportions of the three sectors of overall GDP were 0.61 percent, 38.54 percent, and 60.85 percent, respectively.

The city's general public budget revenue in the first nine months was 36.28 billion yuan, an increase of 28.9 percent year-on-year, and the general public budget expenditure was 49.75 billion yuan, up 1.6 percent year-on-year. 

The added value of the city's industrial enterprises above a designated size – those with annual revenues of 20 million yuan or more – increased 16.4 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters. 

The equipment manufacturing industry made steady progress as well, with added value growing 30.9 percent. The added value of the high-tech manufacturing and industrial strategic emerging industries grew 42.1 percent and 25 percent year-on-year, respectively.

The city's fixed asset investment increased 12.3 percent, and large-scale project investment helped support growth. In addition, there were 106 projects worth more than 1 billion yuan each under construction in Taiyuan from January to September, an increase of 19 over the same period in 2020 and driving the city's investment up by 14.5 percentage points. 

The city's total retail sales of consumer goods were valued at 137.93 billion yuan, up 22.7 percent. Internet retail retained rapid growth, and enterprises above a designated size achieved 11.71 billion yuan in retail sales through online channels, an increase of 137.1 percent year-on-year. 

Taiyuan also saw growth in local residents' incomes. Per capita disposable income among Taiyuan residents in the past nine months was 28,047 yuan, increasing 2,365 yuan over the same period last year.

The per capita disposable income of urban permanent residents and rural residents was 30,437 yuan and 15,228 yuan, up 9.1 percent and 10.9 percent year-on-year, respectively.
