The Taiyuan office of epidemic prevention and control announced on Aug 2 that first-dose vaccinations have begun against the COVID-19 pandemic for young people aged 15 to 17 in Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province.

According to the local authority, the vaccination program targeting people aged below 18 is being rolled out in stages.

In August, the city will administer first-dose vaccines to people aged 15 to 17, while in September, the shots will be given to those between 12 and 14 years old.

The entire vaccination will be completed before the end of October, when 256,100 people from 12 to 17 years old will have received the jab.

Currently, there are 272 vaccination sites in the city and eligible people can choose a nearby station to make an appointment for the procedure.
