Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has issued a series of measures that have been designed to develop itself as a new smart city.

A news conference on pilot work undertaken by Taiyuan for a new smart city was held by the municipal government information office on July 13.

The pilot work involves a reform and innovation project targeting the actual needs of its urban socioeconomic development – focusing on people's happiness and satisfaction – and is aimed at promoting intelligent city development.

Taiyuan has carried out a great deal of fruitful work in building a new smart city, with continued improvements of policies, mechanisms, and infrastructure, streamlining of governance and the accelerated formation of an advanced industrial system.

As a result, the city was recognized as one of the first batch of provincial-level pilot new smart cities in Shanxi on June 17.

Plans are for Taiyuan to explore a new type of smart city construction path that is in line with its own development pattern.

It will reflect regional characteristics and the nature of the times – as well as promote new smart city construction in areas such as infrastructure, welfare services, the environment, industrial development and network security.

Specific measures will be undertaken. These include improving new digital infrastructure, offering more smart public services and innovating in the construction and operation of a new smart city.
