The fifth session of the 13th Taiyuan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) is ongoing between Feb 22 and 24 in Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province.

A total of 308 members of the 13th CPPCC Taiyuan Committee attended the opening plenary conference, including Cao Xuecheng, chairman of the 13th CPPCC Taiyuan Committee.

Cao delivered the CPPCC Taiyuan Committee's work report, reviewing the committee's and political advisers' efforts and achievements in 2020 and setting out the work plan for 2021.

He said that the committee would continue to play a positive role as a political consultation agency, contribute to implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for Taiyuan and focus on high-quality development, the city's cultural exploration and promotion, improving people's livelihoods and innovation in 2021.

Hao Baoqing, the vice-chairman of the 13th CPPCC Taiyuan Committee, reported on the handling of 613 proposals submitted by individual political advisers, political parties and organizations since April 2020.

Among the submitted proposals, 526 were put on record for further discussion and implementation, said Hao.

More than 70 percent of these proposals involved hot issues such as people's livelihoods, education, public health, social governance, economic transformation and comprehensive reform. These proposals provide a valuable reference for the local government and offer solutions to specific problems involving the city's economic and social development.
