Taiyuan International Mail Exchange Bureau in Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province, handled 2.19 million pieces of international mail between January and November in 2020, according to an announcement from Taiyuan's municipal postal administration on Jan 12.

Of the total, more than 1.24 million items were exported mail, and some 930,000 were imported pieces of mail.

Founded in November 2018, Taiyuan International Mail Exchange Bureau ended the practice of Shanxi province's international mail being inspected and released by Beijing.

Inbound and outbound mail to and from Taiyuan had to pass through the Beijing International Mail Exchange Bureau in the past.

With the cooperation of Taiyuan International Mail Exchange Bureau, Taiyuan Customs and Taiyuan Wusu International Airport, the customs clearance of international mail can be completed locally, and local mail can be exported to more than 220 countries and regions. The new system streamlines customs clearance procedures and shortens the international mail handling time by one to three working days.

The bureau added additional personnel last year, significantly improving the efficiency of export deliveries and enhancing Taiyuan's ability to serve cross-border e-commerce.
