A project concerning wide and ultra-thin precision stainless steel strip technology and a related series of products from Taiyuan city won the project category of the China Industry Award, China's highest honor in the industrial sector, on Dec 27.

The winning industrial project was undertaken by Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group Co (TISCO), based in Taiyuan city, Shanxi province.

Wide and ultra-thin precision stainless steel strips are called hand-tear steel by the public. Due to the complex processing technology and difficult production control, only a few countries in the world can consistently produce it.

After years of research and development, since 2016, TISCO has successfully produced stainless steel precision strips with a thickness of 0.02 millimeters and a width of 600 mm, becoming the only company in the world that can mass-produce wide and ultra-thin precision stainless steel strips.

The company has also developed a new generation of precision steel strips and low-magnetic high-strength ultra-flat materials for the 5G high-end electronics industry, leading the world's development of stainless steel ultra-thin strip steel.

At present, TISCO's project has 44 national patents, of which 13 are invention patents.
