Di Renjie Culture Park, in memory of the Taiyuan-born high official Di Renjie (630-700) from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), opened to the public on Dec 1 in Taiyuan, capital city of North China's Shanxi province.
Di Renjie was an outstanding official during the reign of Wu Zetian in the Tang Dynasty. He is known for being upright and not afraid of power and his stories have been translated into 29 languages and published in 38 countries.
The culture park covers 17,000 square meters and has a temple commemorating Di Renjie, his former residence, a related stone tablet and pagoda trees which were planted in the Tang Dynasty.
These cultural landscapes introduce his life and showcase his diligent, people-oriented, righteous and incorruptible governance, as well as the folk customs, costumes and a territory map of the Tang Dynasty, allowing visitors to further understand the virtues of honesty, loyalty and filial piety.
"The park focuses on highlighting Di Renjie's thoughts about managing a country and the spirit of clean government and aims to make the ancient celebrity a new cultural calling card for Taiyuan," said Lyu Na, director of the park's office.
According to Lyu, the park has helped improve the layout of urban parks and green space in the city and enrich Taiyuan's tourism resources, while protecting and passing on the city's cultural heritage.
In recent years, Taiyuan has increased its efforts to celebrate and honor local historical celebrities, integrating them into the development of cultural and tourist attractions. This has been an effective way to develop tourism and promote the city's profile.
