The Wudongde Hydropower Station on the Jinsha River in Southwest China -- the world's seventh-largest hydropower station which recently started operations -- used a series of high-end products manufactured by Taiyuan Iron and Steel Group Co (TISCO).

The company based in Taiyuan city, capital of Shanxi province, began to develop high-strength magnetic yoke steel products for giant hydropower equipment in 2013.

Later in 2016, the company became the world's first steel manufacturer to obtain international certification for producing 750-megapascal high-strength magnetic yoke steel.

With an average annual power generation capacity of 38.91 billion kilowatt-hours, the Wudongde Hydropower Station's single unit power generates a massive 850,000 kilowatts -- demanding extremely precise manufacturing of key components such as yokes and magnetic poles.

During the trial production for the hydropower station, TISCO's products surpassed those of many world-renowned high-strength steel manufacturers and became the first to meet the exacting technical requirements of the equipment manufacturer for the hydropower station.

To date, the company has supplied more than 4,000 metric tons of magnetic steel poles, high-strength yoke steel and special stainless steel to the hydropower station, becoming an important supplier of key materials for the project.

Also, TISCO has never lowered the pace of its innovations. The company had reached an agreement with General Electric Company in the United States to begin advanced research and development of over 800-MPa high-strength steel for ultra-large hydropower units.
