Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province, plans to develop 10 industrial clusters for the intensive and deep processing of agricultural products and become the farm produce processing and distribution hub in Shanxi by 2022, according to a local government notice on June 15.
Based on its agricultural specialties, the city will boost the 10 agricultural related industrial clusters including brewing, beverages, dairy products, meat products, fruit, dietary supplements, cosmetics and traditional Chinese medicines.
Officials said the city will establish production centers, industrial supply chains, processing parks and develop leisure tourism sectors.
Local Jiancaoping district, Xiaodian district and Yangqu county will build clusters for pasteurized fresh milk and the Shanxi Transformation and Comprehensive Reform Demonstration Zone will develop fresh milk beverage and yogurt production clusters to meet the demands of urban and rural residents for fresh dairy products.
With the brewing clusters focusing on vinegar, liquor and the red wine sectors, Taiyuan plans to develop vinegar and liquor industrial clusters in Qingxu county, Xinghualing and Yingze districts and a red wine cluster in Qingxu county.
For the development of the 10 industrial clusters, Taiyuan will promote the integration of the agriculture, forestry, culture, sports, tourism and healthcare sectors.
For instance, the city will construct scenic spots such as vinegar museums and winery cultural experience parks based on local resources in traditional crafts, intangible cultural heritage and agricultural product processing.
The city has set a goal of generating 26.2 billion yuan ($3.70 billion) in the output value of its agricultural product processing sector in the current year, with the goal of exceeding 30 billion yuan by 2022.
