Taiyuan University of Science and Technology in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, was established in 1952. It is an important personnel training, scientific and technological research and development base in China's major technical equipment field.

Throughout over 60 years of development, Taiyuan University of Science and Technology has developed into a comprehensive higher education institution featuring equipment manufacturing-related majors.

The university has 61 undergraduate majors, 10 majors offering master's degrees such as business management, electronic information, and machinery.

It also has postdoctoral research stations for mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering majors. Its mechanical design, manufacturing and automation major is the first of its kind in Shanxi province to pass engineering education certification, with the graduate employment rate ranking ahead of other Shanxi universities for more than 10 years.

Since 2006, the university has won four State Science and Technology Progress Awards, one State Technological Invention Award, one Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation - Science and Technology Innovation Award and dozens of provincial science and technology awards. It has also participated in national key scientific research and engineering programs.

The university is an active advocate and pioneer in industry-university-research institute cooperation. In 2001, it established an industry-university-research institute board in cooperation with more than 40 key machinery manufacturers across China and established strategic partnerships with over 200 businesses across the country.

Meanwhile, the university attaches importance to international education. It has cooperated with dozens of foreign universities -- including Auburn University and University of North Carolina in the United States, the University of Wollongong in Australia, as well as Kyoto Women's University and Toyohashi Sozo University in Japan -- to conduct joint undergraduate education programs and exchange visits of faculty members.
