The fifth session of the 14th Taiyuan Municipal People's Congress was held in Taiyuan city, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on April 27-29. 

A total of 319 deputies reviewed the socioeconomic development, various municipal budgets and government work in the city during 2019 and made plans for these areas in the current year. 

The session also passed resolutions for city-level budgets for 2020, a resolution on the work report of the Standing Committee of Taiyuan Municipal People's Congress, another on the work report of the Taiyuan Intermediate People's Court -- and a resolution on the work report of the People's Procuratorate of Taiyuan city. 

Luo Qingyu, Party chief of Taiyuan city, recognized the work and progress in the city's social and economic development last year and stressed several aspects of the city's development plan in 2020 during the session. 

These include developing Taiyuan into a national regional central city, boosting industrial growth and attracting investment. 

He also stressed the need for promoting the development of transport and communications infrastructure, integrating rural revitalization with poverty alleviation, further realizing the potential of consumer spending and improving the local environment.
