Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, ranked first in indicators on the rate of travel rates within the province, levels of tourist arrivals, tourist spending and internet searches in the recent 2019 Shanxi Tourism Development Big Data Report, according to local officials.

The report showed that residents in Taiyuan showed a high rate of travel over the past year due to local socioeconomic developments and advantages gained in the city's opening up. 

Among all 11 cities in Shanxi, Taiyuan received most tourists last year. The daily average for internet searches on Taiyuan ranked first among cities in the province. Tourists consumed the most in Taiyuan with their total spend accounting for 18.56 percent of the value of total tourist expenditure.

The report found that with its continuous improvement in tourism, transportation infrastructure and other public service facilities, Taiyuan will continue to benefit from its strategic advantages as a provincial capital city so as to improve its tourism attractions and strengths.
