Shanxi province's first 24-hour smart city public library with no staff opened in the provincial capital of Taiyuan on Dec 27, according to city officials.
Co-constructed by the Taiyuan Library and the government of Haozhuang town, the city public library is located in Haozhuang town, a region of dense population in Taiyuan city.
"The town not only has a large number of local residents, but also a large number of migrant workers and businesspeople," said Guo Xinping, director of Taiyuan Library.
"The city public library can provide convenient and considerate cultural services to people and will help the citizens develop the habit of reading and improve the local cultural atmosphere," Guo added.
Locals can experience engage in reading, borrow books, return books the 24-hour library after scanning their reading ID cards or their faces to get into the new facility.
The Taiyuan Library will next move on to perform equipment maintenance and allocate more books, to ensure visitors can read more books at the 24-hour unattended smart city public library.
