The fifth "Tonchuang Cup" Taiyuan Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition concluded in Taiyuan city on Dec 20. 

This year's competition divided into entrepreneurship and originality categories. 

These focused on the new technologies and industries related to internet, the internet of things, big data, and artificial intelligence, as well as encouraged the incubation of technological innovation entrepreneurial projects.

In addition, a special cultural creative competition was added to this year's event. This concentrated on the history, culture and rich tourism resources of Jinyuan district in Taiyuan. 

The 29-day entrepreneurship and innovation competition attracted more than 400 individual and group participants from across China since its official launch on Nov 22.

It witnessed 126 projects involving biomedicines, agriculture, energy saving and environmental protection, electronic information, new materials and the internet of vehicles sectors.

To improve the skills of contestants, the organizing committee of the competition especially set up a training camp for the finalists. 

This provided comprehensive guidance in terms of grooming, project plan writing and presentation. 

Some 15 entrepreneurial projects and 12 originality projects demonstrated and promoted their projects in an 8-minute presentation at the final. 

They were judged on the project's feasibility, entrepreneurial ideas, practical performance, operational planning, leadership management and on-the-spot response.

There followed a Q&A and evaluation by nine experts, entrepreneurship mentors and entrepreneurs from Tongji University, as well as companies engaged in investment, business incubation and consultation.

The Sunlectric project on the photovoltaic sector won first prize in the entrepreneurship category and an intelligent waste sorting and recycling system project topped the originality category.

First initiated in 2015, the annual Taiyuan Youth Entrepreneurship and Innovation Competition has attracted more than 3,000 participants to date. 

Organizers said it has showcased over 700 projects, greatly arousing Taiyuan young people's enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and innovation -- and attracting the attention of many venture investment institutions and well-known enterprises.
