The construction of Chinese e-commerce giant JD's Asia No 1 logistics park project -- a vital part of Shanxi province's logistics development blueprint plans -- is currently in fully swing in the provincial capital Taiyuan.

Asia No 1 is the project name for JD to develop its automation operation center into a modern operation center, with the largest scale and highest degree of automation in the business-to-customer sector in Asia.

JD has so far constructed 23 Asia No 1 projects in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Chengdu and Wuhan.

Early in October 2017, JD signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Shanxi transformation and Comprehensive Reform demonstration zone to build the Asia No 1 logistics park in Xiaohe Logistics Industrial Park in Taiyuan.

As the first comprehensive intelligent logistics park invested and constructed by JD in Shanxi province, it covers an area of 29.97 hectares and a construction area of 34.8 hectares.

The construction involves a sorting center, a large warehouse and small and medium-sized warehouses for storage, sorting, packaging, distribution, goods returns and exchanges.

Started in August last year, the project has currently completed its main structures and the first phase of the project is expected to be put into operation in the first half of 2020.

Once completed, the Asia No 1 logistics park will become a regional logistics hub integrating functions such as large-scale production, storage, distribution and operations, supporting JD's development in Shanxi in the years to come.

The company said the commodity logistics and distribution will be greatly accelerated for Shanxi customers who order goods on JD.com, an e-commerce platform owned by JD.

In particular, JD's self-operated goods will be sent to local customers on the same day if those orders are made in the morning.

At the same time, the Asia No 1 logistics park will attract a large number of small and medium-sized e-commerce enterprises and e-commerce service companies to the surrounding areas.

This will help Taiyuan form an influential e-commerce industrial cluster and advance the growth of the e-commerce industry in Shanxi.
