The city of Taiyuan, capital and largest city of Shanxi province in northern China, recently won a major accolade for its prowess in the important Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events – or MICE – sector, according to local officials.

They said it won the "2019 China's Most Competitive Convention and Exhibition City (Provincial Capital and Prefecture-level City)" at the recent annual meeting of China Convention and Exhibition Industry and China Urban Competitiveness Index of Convention and Exhibition Industry Release Conference.

The event was held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.

Experts say the China Urban Competitiveness Index of Convention and Exhibition Industry is currently the most authoritative and scientific evaluation index for the country's MICE sector.

They add that it has strong influence and guides cities to improve their competitiveness in the MICE industry.

Sponsored by China Convention/Exhibition/Event Society, the event attracted participation of more than 600 representatives from domestic and foreign exhibition and conference organizations.

Also attending were representatives from city governments, universities and colleges with convention and exhibition majors, related research institutes and convention and exhibition venues across China.
