Taiyuan city, capital of Shanxi province, won the Annual New Cultural Tourism Communication City Award at the 2019 Boao International Tourism Communication Forum -- which concluded in Qionghai in Hainan province on Nov 24, according to local officials.

More than 5,400 works entries were considered -- with a total of 28 awards up for grabs in 11 categories in the 2019 Tourism Communication Awards at this year's forum.

Officials said 10 cities were included in the top Annual New Cultural Tourism Communication Cities list.

According to the judges, Taiyuan won because of its innovative initiatives in tourism promotion and its integration of sports and tourism.

Taking the opportunity to host the Second National Youth Games in August, Taiyuan has held large-scale cultural tourism promotions and image marketing activities across China.

In addition to promoting the city's image and its scenic spots, Taiyuan has also added cultural tourism promo videos, folk song performances, business matchmaking, product displays and selling -- as well as on-site raffles in promotions, igniting the enthusiasm of participants in Second National Youth Games and tourists.
