Taiyuan Ancient City Park in Taiyuan city opened to the public on Nov 20 – following two years of construction that started in October 2017, local officials said.

Based on the ancient county seat of Taiyuan in Jinyuan district, the park covers 65 hectares and includes facilities such as four public squares, four footbridges and six carriageways.

Its green area covers about 41 ha, mostly featuring large-sized trees and pines, with its green coverage rate at an impressive 76 percent.

The moat -- the highlight of the newly built park, accounting for 16 percent of the park's total area -- is 4,400 meters in circumference and 20 m in width. It was restored on the original watercourse site dating back to  the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and combines the functions of landscaping and flood discharge.
