The Shanxi leg of the 2019 World Robot Olympiad was held in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on July 13.

This year's World Robot Olympiad was themed around smart cities and consisted of four events, including regular categories for elementary and junior school students as well as an advanced robotics challenge.

A total of 75 teams from eight cities across China took part in the Shanxi leg of the competition where kids assembled the robots on their own, programmed and debugged the robots and completed specified tasks.

World Robot Olympiad is a global robotics competition for young people aged between 5 and 25, aimed at bringing together young people all over the world to develop their creativity and problem solving skills.

First held in Singapore in 2004, it has so far attracted more than 550,000 participants from over 70 countries.
