Citizens of Taiyuan city can now view various geological specimens for free at a geological specimen park which opened its doors on May 23.

It is the first public park featuring the earth sciences and exploring the geological landscape in Shanxi province.

The specimen park, which covers an area of 6,000 square meters or so at the southeast side of the Shanxi Museum of Geology, has collected more than 100 rock and ore specimens from 11 cities across Shanxi province.

"These specimens are rock and ore samples (dating back) between 3.2 billion and 2 million years," said Shi Yue, a guide at Shanxi Museum of Geology.
