Taiyuan Binhe Sports Center, a major venue for the second Youth Games of China to be held in Shanxi province in August and September, completed a major renovation and opened its doors to the public on March 18. 

Covering an area of 73,260.72 square meters and a construction area of 73,049 square meters, the reconstruction project involved an investment of 832 million yuan ($124.57 million) and consisted of the renovation of the old Taiyuan Binhe Sports Center, construction of a public gym as well as an underground parking facility.

The four-storey renewed Taiyuan Binhe Sports Center, with a capacity of 4,710 people, will be responsible for the table tennis events during the second Youth Games of China. The new gym, which can hold 1,444 spectators, will be the venue for the weight lifting events during the youth games.

Recycling technologies, eco-friendly, safe and energy saving construction materials and architectural designs were adopted in the reconstruction, according to  contractor China Construction Third Engineering Bureau Co.
